I seemed to miss Lily's turning point entirely - I thought she was all good after clearing out the monster cave, but her ending involved how she'd sneakily been taking only half-doses (much like Gma, now that I think of it), but could still remember her grandchildren at least.
The independent option came down to "life became more chaotic, but people got used to it." I turned out to be not so good at bureaucracy, I guess :)
Ah...Sims. Yeah, I blame them for my mod skills. Sims 3 is little more than a broken toy that I get fascinated in fixing, then lose interest until a new patch or pack comes out that breaks it again. Actually, it's a pretty awful game without Awesomemod, which fixes the gamebreakers and gives you a running commentary on what's happening elsewhere in your neighborhood. I think my mod love comes from the ficcing part of my brain, the attitude that something professionally produced is so much fun I want to tinker with it myself.
